Lira – As Uganda gears up for the highly anticipated 2026 general elections, Rt. Rev. Bishop Sanctus Lino Wanok, the Bishop of Lira Diocese has called on politicians to maintain peace, respect, and decorum in their campaigns.
Bishop Wanok cautioned political leaders against using abusive language and inciting violence, warning that such actions could destabilize the nation and divide communities.
Speaking during the erection of St. Peters Parish, Anai in Lira City West Division that witnessed the presence in various political players including; Minister Betty Amongi, Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, MP Obong Vincent Shedrick Eyit, Local Government officials among others, Bishop Wanok urged politicians to conduct issue-based campaigns that focus on the needs and aspirations of the people rather than engaging in personal attacks and hostility. He emphasized that leadership is about service and unity, not confrontation and hatred.
